STATEMENT ON SERVICES DURING THE COVID-19 OUTBREAK

Update No. 2 - 24 March 2020

Please note the following updates to our statement released on 19 March 2020 in light of the Government's announcements of 23 March 2020. 

Selsey Town Council has reviewed its current services to examine the social and financial impacts of the current Covid-19 outbreak.  Note that this is a new, unprecedented and fast-moving situation and it takes time to get the necessary decisions in place to ensure that we can react and respond according to need without breaking the laws which govern local councils.  Please see below for an update on the current status of our main services.  As the situation is changing daily please refer to our Selsey Town Council's website  for further information, or contact enquiries@selseytowncouncil.gov.uk or telephone us on 01243 605803. All council meetings are suspended and where possible our staff are working from home.  Please support our attempts to keep our residents safe by observing the Government's guidelines on public gathering, exercise and essential travel. 

Parks, Open Spaces and Play Areas- Our open spaces will remain open and we will continue to maintain these areas as normal.  However, following the Government's directives our play areas, play equipment and gym equipment are now closed and work is in hand to disable equipment and/or secure the fenced areas.  Signage will be in place in all areas.  We will review this in three weeks time according to updated advice.  In the meantime, please protect yourself and others by not using the play/gym equipment.  Our parks remain open and will be maintained according to staffing levels; these may be used for exercise but you must follow the governments advice www.gov.uk/coronavirus

Public Conveniences- The public WCs at Warners Yard will be closed to the public until further notice; this will be reviewed following the Government's own review after a period of 3 weeks.  All other toilets throughout the town remain the responsibility of Chichester District Council, Tel: 01243 785166.

Selsey Centre & Town Hall Complex- The Town Council buildings comprising of the Town Hall Complex, the Selsey Centre and the public toilets at Warners Yard will be closed to the public until further notice; this willl be reviewed following the Government's own review after a period of three weeks.  Our phone lines will be manned according to staffing levels; we will return any messages.  You can also contact the Council via email at enquiries@selseytowncouncil.gov.uk and details of our services and Councillor details can be found via our website .  The Council is currently examining options to ensure that we can support the small businesses and local groups that constitute our regular users and further updates on this will follow shortly.

Bus Shelters- There are two owned by Selsey Town Council in Church Road and Kingsway; these will remain open and be regularly cleaned. All other bus shelters are the responsibility of Chichester District Council, Tel: 01243 785166.

Please note that only central Government has the authority to direct private businesses or traders to either close or change thier activities during this time.  if you have concerns please contact the business directly or your local MP, Gillian Keegan on 020 7219 1193 or via email at gillian.keegan.mp@parliament.uk.
