Selsey Christmas Celebrations

An evening of family fun in Selsey High Street

The town of Selsey has a great tradition of Christmas celebrations with their annual Christmas Lights switch on, often proving to be one of the most impressive in the district.

Once again Selsey Town Council are at the forefront of the celebrations and have organised another uplifting start to the festive season in the town.  The Clerk explains further "We've extended the celebrations this year to include the whole of Selsey High Street to help celebrate the range of wonderful independent retailers our town has.  The annual lantern parade will of course play a key part as well as music and entertainment throughout the day.  We hope the community will come out and support all that Selsey has to offer".

The fun beings at 3pm with music and entertainment as well as Burnett's fun fair and street food.

The lantern parade will leave St. Peters Church at 5pm lead by the local Coastguard crew and the Lions Club sleigh, with the band from T.S Sturdy and panto cast from Cloud 9 Musical Theatre joining in too.

Celebrations will continue through the evening and expect to finish at 7pm.

We're delighted to announce that we hope there will be a range of activities taking place form 3pm, if you are a local retailer planning an exciting event then please let us know:

  • Stilt Walker
  • Balloon Modeller
  • Burnetts Fun Fair Rides
  • Live music and singing
  • Selsey First Responders tombola
  • Lion's Club BBQ stand
  • Food traders
  • Panto peformers
  • Ian Crouch from Spirit FM
  • Lantern Parade
  • Many shops will be open and offering activities or refreshments - please come and support them.

Lantern Parade

Selsey Town Council will be giving out lantern bags and LED candles from 4.30pm at St. Peters Church, or feel free to bring along your own lantern (no naked flames allowed).  The parade will then begin walking at 5pm from St. Peter's Church down to the junction of West Street (near New Parade).  Parade order:

  • Coastguard Vehicle
  • Selsey and District Lions Club Sleigh
  • Panto Cast
  • members of public
  • T.S Sturdy Marching Band.

Once the parade arrives at West Street the marching band will walk back up to The Crown where they will play after the lights switch on.

Christmas Tree Lights Switch On

Our main Christmas Tree Lights Switch on will take place on the corner of the High Street and West Street (New Parade), once the Lantern Parade arrives we will have a blessing from Father Andy Wilkes before the countdown.  We hope (!) to have the High Street lights come on at the same time - however timers can sometimes be unreliable - so whatever happens give a cheer!

The Christmas Tree Lights will also be switched on at The Crown Inn where T.S Sturdy will be playing festive songs, so if it looks a little crowded at one end of the High Street simply make your way to the other end!
